Civil litigation is the legal process which occurs where a person or business entity, decides to attempt to resolve their dispute by issuing Court proceedings.

Generally, this is where someone has tried other methods (such as mediation) to resolve a business problem and they have been unsuccessful. When civil proceedings are issued before the Court the matter will be decided by a judge. After hearing the case the judge will deliver a judgement which may include one or more of the following:

An award for damages as compensation
An order directing someone to do something
An order directing someone to stop/cease doing something

These two last types of cases are where one is seeking an injunction.
